Virtual versus real exhibitions and galleries

Similarities;
You can view artwork in either format: real or virtual

Advantages of 'real' galleries
They're more engaging
They can comprise a day out
A family or other group can enjoy together
They provoke an emotional or physical response
You can observe other visitors
There is an atmosphere
There is more scope to interact with people
You can experience texture, smell, and other physical sensations
You get a better sense of the works' scale
There is greater versatility of viewpoints
You can learn from others
There is an audience (this may be a disadvantage for some)

Advantages of virtual galleries
Accessible 24/7
They can fit into visitors' free time
Globally accessible
You can access several simultaneously
They can be enjoyed within the home
No time constraints, mobility issues or other concerns, eg childcare
They can be enjoyed quietly
They can be more versatile: not limited by the physical world, eg gravity
No busy periods
There is no audience (this may be a disadvantage for some)

Introduction
Based on our findings from online research and our group discussion we are now in a position to form our introduction to the essay. We are now familiar enough with both a gallery and a virtual space to be able to compare, weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of both and draw a conclusion.

How might we introduce the topic?
"In this essay we will... looking at... and decide..."
"Through examples, of .... and.... it can be shown that...."
